That is extraordinarily enjoyable. Jeff Lindsay has created Topframe, and writes:
Anyone that is aware of easy methods to fiddle with HTML can now fiddle with their desktop computing expertise. Topframe is an open supply device that permits you to customise your desktop display utilizing HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
The default display after putting in has some hardcore weirdweb power.
Mac-only I feel for now.
But it surely’s tremendous straightforward to customise. It’s simply an index.html file at ~/.topframe/index.html. It auto-refreshes whenever you save the file.

My first thought was to fill my desktop with every thing Dave likes from his RSS feed. However I attempted dropping that JavaScript in and it didn’t work. I couldn’t debug it as a result of there isn’t a console to take a look at or something. Oh effectively. I think about sensible use-cases embody constructing little widgets with reside information you wish to regulate always.
The opposite hiccup I had is that it messes with taking window screenshots. You already know how one can go Command + Shift + 4 then Area on macOS to pick out only one window to screenshot? You may’t do this with this operating as a result of it’s at all times the highest window. Therefore “prime body” (get it?). I feel it might be extra enjoyable to be “backside body” in that it might act extra like a background as an alternative of being at all times on prime.
Apparently, Home windows may do that a very long time in the past, proving (but once more) that there’s nothing new underneath the solar.
